Cardiff city centre transformed into Paris and Milan for immersive 1970’s spy thriller theatre show Following two widely acclaimed sell-out productions (Heart Of Darkness and Rude), theatre company Give It A Name is back with an immersive 1970's Parisian spy thriller, My Life in CIA, in Cardiff city centre 23 May – 3 June.

My Life in CIA is based on based on Harry Mathews' autobiographical novel. Harry Mathews was the only American member of the infamous OuLiPo, and a lot of people in Paris believed he was CIA. In 1973 he decided to play them at their own game. Truth was the first casualty. Some say he was terminated with extreme prejudice.

Harry Mathews' My Life In CIA is a grand conspiracy of poetic subversion, a cinematic fantasy, and quite possibly true. This performance takes the form of a promenade through Cardiff City Centre, as if it were both Paris and Milan in 1973. A world populated by remarkable artists, beautiful women, political activists, double agents, improbable coincidences, dubious truths and cold war paranoia. The evening begins in Le Monde Restaurant and pursues its inventions to a dramatic finale in the hidden recesses of St David's Hall.

Directed by James Williams, the cast includes Haruka Kuroda (best known as Noodle from Gorillaz), Hannah McPake, John Norton, Dean Rehman, Katy Owen, Joanna Simpkins, Joe Wild and Oliver Wood (Charlie from High Hopes).

The original soundtrack is composed by Branwen Munn aka Somatik: a Ceredigion based multi instrumentalist/ composer who has collaborated with 4 Hero (including live at Montreux Jazz Festival), Ryuchi Sakamoto, Talvin Singh, Roy Ayers and Madonna. She also composed for Give It A Name's acclaimed production Heart Of Darkness.

Choreography is by Joe Wild and the design team is led by Tim Dickel whose recent work includes Skins and National Theatre Wales. Costume design is by Sian Jenkins with artwork and digital by Slurp Design. The show is a co-production by Give It A Name Theatre and Chapter, with support from Arts Council Wales, St David's Hall, Sherman Cymru and Le Monde.

My Life in CIA runs on selected dates between 23 May and 3 June. Tickets are available from Chapter’s Box Office on 029 2030 4400 or www.chapter.org Rendezvous at 7.37pm at Le Monde, 61 St Mary Street, Cardiff - the performance then takes place in several locations.
