Innovative and compelling International dance programme visits Cardiff |
Dance Roads international touring initiative is coming to Chapter, Cardiff at the end of May and offers audiences the opportunity to see five choreographers work in one diverse and engaging programme. Coreo Cymru and Chapter is the UK network partner for this unique performance programme, hosted with partners from Canada, France, Italy and the Netherlands. Coreo Cymru, Creative Dance Producer, Wales was launched in January 2012, to encourage and manage the creation and production of new dance activity, and to support the development of Wales based artists and companies. Dance Roads is the first of many Coreo Cymru programmes that aim to connect with audiences by offering a mix of inspiring ways to engage with the programme and new, accessible ways of presenting dance. The Dance Roads network was founded in 1989 to support choreographic development and provide artists with much needed international exposure and networking opportunities. To date the network has presented over 80 choreographers from Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Britain, Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Luxembourg and Denmark. UK representatives have included internationally renowned UK artists Wayne McGregor, Russell Maliphant, Fin Walker and Eddie Ladd, supported by various UK partners at the early stages of their development. This year’s UK representative is Wales based choreographer Tanja Råman who will present her duet Unattaching to audiences in Montreal, Bordeaux, Turin, Cardiff and Arnhem, accompanied by established choreographers from each of the partner countries. The tour began in Montreal on 6 May where the participating artists met for the first time and will travel together moving from one country to the next, sharing hotels, venues, meals, experiences and exposing their work to a variety of audiences and cultures. The programme of five short pieces offers audiences a variety of innovative and engaging quality contemporary dance presented in Chapter on Friday 25 May at 8pm, including post show talk and Saturday 26 May at 8pm, and a after show party. Tickets, £12/£10 including after show activities can be purchased from Chapter Box Office on 029 203044 or chapter.org Dance Roads is supported by the Arts Council of Wales, Wales Arts International and numerous funding agencies from each of the partner countries. |
