Cardiff’s Orbit Theatre presents the much-loved musical Annie, at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 5 – Saturday 9 June. The perfect treat for half-term, Annie is the feel-good story of the Little Orphan whose rags-to-riches adventures in depression-hit America have delighted generations. From Miss Hannigan’s orphanage to the splendour of Daddy Warbucks’ mansion, this wholesome show is packed full of memorable songs including Tomorrow, It’s the Hard Knock Life, I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here and You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile. Playing the part of Annie is aspiring Cardiff actress Georgia Tonge from Llanederyn. Georgia, who attends Pontprennau-based Go Theatre Cardiff, also played one of the children in the recent production of The King and I at the New Theatre with her younger sister Becky. Joining Georgia in Annie is her older sister Charlotte who is in the ensemble. The production has a total of 3 groups of 14 girls alternating each show, along with a boys ensemble, all of whom come from a number of different theatre groups from across the city. Other cast members include Phil Bond as Daddy Warbucks (Orbit Theatre’s The Full Monty, Copacabana and My Fair Lady), Linda Coombes as Mrs Hannigan (Orbit’s production of Annie in 2003), Howard Turnbull and Anne Mason who have both starred in most of Orbits productions since 1981. Recent Orbit productions at the New Theatre have included The Full Monty, Wizard of Oz, Copacabana and My Fair Lady. Annie is at the New Theatre from Tuesday 5 – Saturday 9 June 2012.
