See Olympic-inspired dance being created at Wales’ national dance venue This summer visitors are being invited to watch one of the world’s most popular choreographers work on an Olympic-inspired dance project in Cardiff. Christopher Bruce is creating a new work – Dream – for National Dance Company Wales, (NDCWales) in Dance GB, the Olympic-inspired dance partnership between the UK’s three national dance companies NDCWales, Scottish Ballet and English National Ballet. Each national company is working with an internationally-renowned contemporary choreographer to make a new dance to celebrate the Olympic ideals of excellence and athletic prowess. This national trio will perform together for the first time this summer in Dance GB which premières in Glasgow before touring to Cardiff and London. “I’ve taken as my starting point both the Olympics and the Jubilee and woven them into a piece which, I hope, is not just a celebration of these two events but also a celebration of the sheer enjoyment of physical movement. And this, of course, includes dance,” said Christopher Bruce, who has worked with many dance companies around the world, including the Royal Ballet and English National Ballet. “The training and experiences of athletes and dancers are very similar. But, as with all competitors and dancers, it begins with a dream which you then have to work hard to realise.” Audiences are invited to open rehearsals on 1st and 8th June at the Dance House in Cardiff Bay, to see this acclaimed choreographer create world-class dance. These rehearsals are free but ticketed. The Welsh premier of Dance GB is on 28th-30th June at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff; for tickets see wmc.org.uk |
