100 young people to perform their own short performances at Sherman Cymru

Sherman Cymru’s Youth Theatre members will be given the opportunity to perform their own devised short plays with their first performance back in their new home at Sherman Cymru in Cardiff.

One hundred young people aged between 11 and 25 will perform their own devised work around the themes of ‘love’ from Wednesday 13 – Saturday 16 June.

Sherman Cymru’s Youth Theatre currently has six groups and each group has been given the opportunity to create their own short performance.

Sherman Cymru is committed to nurturing local talent and developing young people’s skills and interest in the arts. There has been a Youth Theatre at Sherman Theatre and now Sherman Cymru for over 20 years and many previous members have now gone on to perform on stage, work in the arts industry or teach others with their skills.

Head of Creative Learning and Sherman Cymru’s Youth Theatre, Philip MacKenzie says:
“The Raw and the Cooked is an opportunity for each of our Youth Theatre tutors to create/devise with each of their groups a short original piece of theatre that is a response to the word LOVE.

The Raw and the Cooked reflects that these are RAW showings of new work and if a piece suggests it could be further developed it will be COOKED and invested in for a full production in Theatre 2.”

Every evening, three Youth Theatre groups will perform their unique short piece, which will be 20 to 25 minutes in length.

The RAW and the COOKED will be at Sherman Cymru, Cardiff from 13 - 16 June, 8pm. Tickets are £5. For tickets and further information, please contact Sherman Cymru on 029 2064 6900 or visit www.shermancymru.co.uk
