Sherman Cymru’s famous pink campervan is looking for a new home. The vehicle has been touring Wales while the company have been waiting for their new building to be completed.Sherman Cymru’s new theatre building re-opened in February following a £6.5 million redevelopment which saw an overhaul of the inside and outside of the existing building. To kick start the fundraising campaign the Arts Council for Wales awarded Sherman Cymru 75% of the money need to start the redevelopment. While the building underwent the redevelopment Sherman Cymru continued to produce its own shows touring to various venues around Wales and U.K and transforming unusual sites in Cardiff into theatre stages. Emma Goad, Head of Development at Sherman Cymru said: “Sherman Cymru’s Pink campervan has been a wonderful marketing device during our closure. We wanted to do something that ties in with us being out of the building, being homeless and on the road. The campervan became our icon while we were out of the building. It was visible at all our shows and fundraising events.” Originally imported from Africa, the 25 year old campervan is in a very good condition and in the last two years it has had a reconditioned engine. Since 2010 it has carried the Sherman Cymru branding and has become an iconic character around the capital. PR and Campaigns Manager Suzanne Carter drives the pink campervan regularly around Cardiff. She said: “We’ve had such a great response from our audiences and supporters who recognise the campervan when they see her out and about. People would beep, wave, even take pictures. We’ve had loads of chatter on social media sites and it will be sad to see it go but now we are back in the building now and it needs a good home to go to.” Sherman Cymru will be selling the pink campervan through ebay (http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/shermancymru/) starting from Sunday 17 June for 7 days. There is a reserve of £9,000. The campervan will be sold without the Sherman Cymru branding but it will still be magenta pink.
