ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY’S OPEN STAGES COMES TO ABERYSTWYTH !

An Aberystwyth based theatre company will be presenting a Shakespeare classic this July as part of the prestigious UK wide RSC Open Stages programme.

Louche Theatre are staging a very Celtic version of the Bard’s most loved comedy, ‘Twelfth Night’ at the Morlan Centre, Queens Road, Aberystwyth.
Some 18 months ago the company were approached by the RSC to see if they wished to apply to be included in this once in a lifetime project, which falls within the Cultural Olympics.

Harry Durnall, Artistic Director of Louche Theatre, said “ After filling in a very detailed application form the RSC then ‘checked us out’ . They looked at many different aspects of the company including the style of the proposed production, reviews of previous productions, marketing strategy, web site, etc; etc; . We were thrilled when we had confirmation of being accepted.

Only a handful of theatre companies in Wales are involved, and we are proud to be the only ones from west Wales. We intend to show the rest of the UK what an independent theatre company from Wales can produce “
Louche Theatre are about halfway through their rehearsal period and things are looking very good already. “ After going through an extensive audition process, I’ve assembled a talented and enthusiastic cast that fully understand my approach to the production” said Harry.

The action opens on the 5th January in the year 1100, the first Twelfth Night of the Twelfth Century on the imaginary island of Ynys Llyria which is mid-way between Gwalia, as Wales was then known, and Ireland. One half of the island is ruled by a Gwalian Countess, Olifia, the other half by an Irish Duke, Orsino.

The production contains original live music by local composer, Meurig Jenkins. “ We have a strong and experienced production team to support the cast, including Shelley Fullwood as Asst. Director, Caroline Clark is our Wardrobe Mistress and Lisa Lewis is Production Manager. All have a wealth of experience in theatre production” said Harry.

Louche Theatre will be presenting this exciting production of ‘Twelfth Night’ from July 19th to 22nd at the Morlan Centre, Queens Road, Aberystwyth. Tickets can be booked by calling the Louche Theatre Box Office on 01970 612617 or by visiting their web site at www.louchetheatre.com
