It’s My Shout to Ensure a Bright Future for Bridgend Youth Theatre |
Leading BBC Cymru Wales Talent Consultant - Roger Burnell – joins with Bridgend County Borough Council to lead youth theatre activities in Bridgend.10 years since the man behind Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones set up It’s My Shout Productions, the company will now take on leadership of Bridgend’s flagship youth drama organisation; Bridgend Youth Theatre. BYT is now known to be a great Welsh hot-bed for talent, having discovered the likes of Aneurin Barnard (star of Hunky Dory, Ironclad and currently filming in Hollywood), Amy Morgan (currently starring in Hay Fever in the West End) and James Morgan (currently featuring in the BBC’s Indian Doctor), to name but a few. Bridgend Assembly Member, Carwyn Jones said of It’s My Shout, “It is exciting to see an already successful local organisation further expand their activities to provide more opportunities for young people in Bridgend to benefit from engaging with performance arts.” We have also been given the Royal seal of approval, as HRH the Prince of Wales recently attended a Bridgend Youth Theatre show (please see photo attached). With at least 2 major performances every year at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl, the new partnership means It’s My Shout will be able to provide unique weekday-evening workshops with industry professionals to keep the search for youth drama talent in Bridgend strong. Workshops will include everything from circus skills to mask-making, stage combat to BBC acting for screen, amongst many others. Ex-BYT Ben McGregor (Channel 4’s Fresh Meat) says “It's My Shout has inspired me to believe that I could better myself and have a real chance to succeed in a competitive industry. I think [it] gave me the edge and the head start I needed.” With an exciting set of productions to come, including The Who’s Tommy; The Rock Opera and Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, the whole team are looking forward to getting started and welcoming more and more children and young people to build their skills and, most importantly, have fun at Bridgend Youth Theatre. |
