Blackwood Miners’ Institute launches its new autumn season line-up this month with a mouth-watering array of live music, theatre, comedy, children’s theatre, family entertainment and more. The must-see production in the new season is the hilarious comedy ‘Neville's Island’ by Tim Firth from 9 - 11 October. Following highly successful tours of Bouncers in 2010 and Up 'n' Under: The Welsh Tour in 2011, Black Rat Productions are back with this wickedly funny play, co-produced with Blackwood Miners' Institute in association with RCT Theatres. There will be plenty of other drama on display through from September until December, with Hijinx Theatre’s ‘Adventures of Sancho Panza’ and Frank Vickery’s bittersweet comedy ‘Breaking the String’ both gracing the stage. Theatr Ffynnon also perform their crime-themed production ‘Pieces of Hate’ and there will be an evening of horror on Halloween in the form of the menacingly hypnotic production ‘Shudders’. Cardiff’s Philharmonic Orchestra, this year celebrating its 30th anniversary, will be entertaining audiences with ‘A Night at the Movies’ in November, paying tribute to legendary composer John Williams who is responsible for some of the greatest movie music ever including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, E.T, Jaws and more! Live music lovers won’t be short of choice with performances by Welsh icon Max Boyce, Bee Gees Magic, Buddy Holly and the Cricketers, Jackson Live In Concert, Don Ross and Brooke Miller, Caerphilly’s own 4th Street Traffic and much more. Families can also look forward to a great programme of entertainment, including Theatr Iolo’s fabulous production of Grimm Tales and Sherman Theatr Cymru’s new production of ‘The Snow Tiger’. This year’s Christmas pantomime ‘Babes In The Wood’, starring Owen Money, is packed full of fun, fabulous musical numbers and laugh out loud comedy. This show is sure to enchant the whole family and is at Blackwood Miners’ Institute from December 6 – 30.
