Paralympic Torch Relay; Welsh Flame will light the skies of Cardiff

Cardiff will be one of three locations in the UK to welcome the Paralympic Torch Relay as it plays host to the Welsh Flame in the capital this weekend. On Monday 27 August Cardiff Bay hosts the Paralympic Flame Festival as part of the London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay.

Wales Millennium Centre will play an integral role in the celebrations as they invite the public to join them for a feast of performances. Confirmed acts for the festival are:

From 2pm: Charlotte Church(5pm), the Snook Brothers, Mike Thomas, Lah de Dah and the Funky Love
Posse. All these performances will take place inside the Wales Millennium Centre.
From 7pm: Only Men Aloud, Scarabeus aerial artists, Tredegar Brass Band and Wales Millennium Centre’s very own choirs, Only Kids Aloud and Hard Côr Urban Choir . A mass sing-along of Karl Jenkins’s In these Stones Horizons Sing will also take place. The event will conclude with a spectacular lantern procession with over 200 participants accompanied by eight Torchbearers prior to the lighting of the cauldron in the Roald Dahl Plass.

The Flame Festival is presented by BT, Lloyds TSB and Sainsbury’s is held as part of the London 2012 Festival - the spectacular 12-week UK-wide celebration bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK.

Conrad Lynch, Artistic Director at Wales Millennium Centre says, “Cardiff will be a hive of activity on Bank Holiday Monday. After months of planning we are very proud of the programme of activity we’ve got lined up and we hope that as many people as possible will join us to help celebrate and welcome the Welsh Flame as it arrives here in the Capital”.

Activities at Wales Millennium Centre will take place from 2pm and culminates with the Flame Festival from 7pm. Escorted by a lantern procession, the Flame will arrive in Roald Dahl Plass on its way to Stoke Mandeville, spiritual home of the Paralympic Movement, where it will be united with Flames from the UK's other capital cities to create the Paralympic Flame.

The flame will go on to join a 24 hour Torch Relay which will see the Paralympic Flame carried 87 miles by 580 inspirational Torchbearers.
