TORCH THEATRE’ LAUNCHES ANNIVERSARY SEASON

TORCH THEATRE’ LAUNCHES ANNIVERSARY SEASON Milford Haven’s Torch Theatre launches another great season of entertainment this month and there are a few pleasant surprises in store which will make those darker evenings a little more bearable!

Their jam packed new brochure will be landing through our letterboxes this week (from 6 September) just as Director Peter Doran launches into rehearsal for the show which not only kicks off the season but celebrates the Torch Theatre Company’s 35th Anniversary.

Shakespeare’s much loved comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which is being produced in conjunction with Mappa Mundi and Theatr Mwldan, has an outstanding cast of twelve, including one of the Torch’s most popular comic actors, Liam Tobin. “With lots of projection, film and live music,” explained Peter “…‘The Dream’ will probably be the most technically advanced show we’ve ever done at the Torch.” It opens at the beginning of October before touring the UK for eight weeks.

With two huge productions to mount in the next couple of months, the Theatre’s workshop team are already at work on some of the larger complex constructions for their Christmas show, Dick Whittington. “I think people will love this one…” Peter continued “… it’s a very traditional set and includes the deck of a ship and a fully fitted kitchen for one of Panto’s best loved comic routines!”

In addition to the Torch’s own productions there is a highly imaginative blend of award winning entertainment to suit most tastes and all ages. From classic dramas such as Hobson’s Choice and The Government Inspector to some truly unique theatre such as an interactive ‘film noir’, where audiences can manipulate the story by way of a piece of chalk and a clapper board, this is arguably one of their most exciting seasons to date.

Also announced is a brand new season of live transmissions from The Metropolitan Opera of New York and two amazing classical ballets direct from the home of dance, the Royal Opera House in London.

Of course, there’s so much more to the Torch that many may not have yet discovered. Café Torch continues to offer pre-show suppers for every live show and their 3D Cinema, Pembrokeshire’s only 3D cinema, continues to thrive.

In the meantime, bringing the current season of live entertainment to a close are two great concerts which form part of the Milford Haven Music Festival, and some first class drama from two of Milford’s most popular local amateur companies. Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime is performed by Xenon Liberal Arts, followed by Touch and Go Theatre Company’s production of Calendar Girls for which, it is rumoured, they are producing their very own calendar!

Something which didn’t make their brochure in time however is a very special transmission of Queen Live in Budapest (1986) on Tuesday 25 September so it’s always worth checking out their website to see what’s new.

The new season brochure, which also coincides with the release of the Torch’s latest season of films, is available on the Torch’s website at www.torchtheatre.co.uk, or contact their Box Office direct on 01646 695267.
