On The Edge celebrates 8 years of Welsh script-held performances with an outstanding autumn Season
Next month will mark the eighth year of Michael Kelligan’s widely acclaimed On The Edge project of Script-held performances of plays by mainly Welsh and Wales based authors. The continuing success is due to the fact that the productions are much more than simple readings but carefully staged artistic productions of a very high order and he has been able to present work by many of the finest contemporary Welsh playwrights such as Alan Harris and Gary Owen. As well as giving opportunities to young actors he has also had many of Wales’ finest BAFTA winning actors eager to work with him.

The opening production this season will be a new play The Road To Port of Barry by Welsh writers Robert Gould and Christopher Orton which comes to The Riverfront in Newport on Thursday 13 September at 7.45pm. The Road to Port of Barry is a real labour of love for Gould and Orton and they can’t wait to see what is done with it.

The second new production in October will be Moist by Cardiff based writer Neil Bebber, a one-man show featuring Nathan Sussex from Newport who recently gave a very strong performance in Anthony Neilson’s Stitching at Chapter. The play will be directed by Mathilde Lopez who made such a strong impression with her two productions for her own company, Waking Exploits, Caryll Churchill’s Serious Money and Pornography by Simon Stephens. Moist plays The Riverfront as part of the Comedy Port Festival on Thursday 11 October at 7.45pm.

This will be followed by the first production of Mog by young writer Aled Roberts and features the directing debut of much featured On The Edge actor James Ashton. Mog plays The Riverfront on Thursday 8 November at 7.45pm.

The final production of the season will be I Am Angela Brazil by Lucinda Coxon
The Riverfront Thursday December 13 at 7.45pm.
