From mellow drama to melodrama, Rhondda Cynon Taff Cultural Services brand new act 8 Drama Season features brilliant comedy, and a beautiful adaptation of a classic children’s tale. Wales’ favourite playwright Frank Vickery returns to all three theatres with a new production of ‘Breaking The String’. Following the huge success of his smash hit comedy ‘Granny Annie’ he returns with this poignant comedy. Written and Starring Frank Vickery as Ron with Sue Roderick playing his wife Iris, Daniel Hanna playing Simon and Kate Powell playing Deryn. So the saying goes if you love somebody – set them free- but that very thing Iris has trouble doing with her only son Simon. So when Simon comes home, accompanied by a girlfriend Deryn, and Iris’ joy quickly turns to jealousy and suspicion. This bitter-sweet comedy is one of Frank’s favourites with laugh-out-loud gags interwoven with moments that will make you cry. Also coming up at The Muni Arts Centre on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 October is Black Rat brand new comedy Neville’s Island. Neville’s Island tells the story of four out of condition, middle-aged businessmen who are sent off on a team building exercise in the Lake District. Thanks to Neville’s map reading skills they succeed in being the first people ever to get shipwrecked on an island on Derwentwater. Bound in fog, menaced by wildlife and cut off from the world, this perfunctory middle class exercise turns into a carnival of recriminations and emergency sausages! For something completely different visit The Park & Dare Theatre on Saturday 3 November for the delightful tale of The Snail and the Whale. Presented by Tall Stories in their unique style this story of a tiny snail that longs to see the World hitches a lift on the tail of a giant humpback whale. Together on this amazing journey they experience delights and disasters. This afternoon of physical story telling and live music is the perfect treat for your little ones.
