Written, directed by, and starring, Frank Vickery Swansea Grand Theatre Tuesday 23rd - Saturday 27th October Wales' favourite playwright, Frank Vickery is back at Swansea Grand Theatre from Tuesday 23rd to Saturday 27th October with Breaking the String. Performances Tuesday to Friday are at 7.30pm and are at 5.00pm and 8.00pm on Saturday. Following the huge success of his smash hit comedy, Granny Annie, Frank returns with this poignant comedy. Written and starring Frank as Ron, with Sue Roderick playing his wife, Iris, Daniel Hanna as Simon, Ron and Iris' son and Kate Powell as Deryn, Simon's girlfriend. Frank has appeared many times with Sue, who many will know from her role in Twin Town and playing Cassie in Pobol Y Cwm. Iris nurtures an intensely possessive love for her only child, Simon. When he comes home, accompanied by his girlfriend Deryn, Iris' joy quickly turns to jealousy and suspicion. Confronted with an increasingly difficult situation, Simon finally announces that he and Deryn are married and expecting a baby. Iris can't be reconciled to the news and this play closes with Iris alone, unable to accept her own folly. Although full of laughs, this play is also a lesson to all mothers! BREAKING THE STRING is one of Frank's favourites. It's a piece of theatre that works on more than one level and whilst being funny with more than it's share of laughs, it also has a serious side, the balance of which is something Frank has always been very proud of. It is one thing to make people laugh... it's another to make them cry... but if a play can do both then it becomes theatre at its best. Don't miss this tour de force! Tickets are available from the Grand Theatre's Box Office on 01792 475715 or can be purchased online at www.swanseagrand.co.uk . Prices are £9.50 to £14.50 with selected concessions. |
