Whose Coat Is That Jacket? at the New Theatre, Cardiff

The team that brought the hit comedy, Bred in Heaven to the New Theatre last year returns with their latest production, Whose Coat Is That Jacket? from Tuesday 2 – Saturday 6 October. This wonderfully Welsh play explores the notion of ‘Hiraeth’ and tries to explain what makes small-town Wales so…well, Welsh!

When Rhodri and his English wife Ruth move back to his hometown of Trimsaran in rural West Wales, cracks begin to show in their relationship. Ruth is tired of her dead end job and lack of prospects, and doesn’t understand her husband’s obsession with this small Welsh backwater - and its rugby team. Feeling isolated from Rhodri’s close-knit family, Ruth finds herself trapped in a claustrophobic environment and something has to give.

This thought-provoking comedy explores the relationships, values and ambition of the Williams family, as the past and the present clash, compromising the stability of this traditional family.

Whose Coat Is That Jacket? is written by, and stars, Jack Llewellyn (Rhodri). Jack attended the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts where he gained the Dame Judi Dench scholarship for actors with outstanding potential. His stage credits include Beast in Beauty and the Beast (Imagine Theatre) Rhys in Connection Failed and Dylan in last year’s rugby comedy Bred in Heaven (Frapetsus Productions). Recently he appeared in Shirley a documentary on the life of Dame Shirley Bassey directed by Colin Teague.

Jack is joined by Hollyoaks and Loose Women star, Terri Dwyer who plays Ruth and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama trained, Ieuan Rhys (Pobol y Cwm, Doctor Who). Whose Coat Is That Jacket? is directed by Maxine Evans whose work includes The Bill, Coronation Street, Casualty, and most recently, EastEnders.
