Bold Productions presentKRAPPS LAST TAPE & CATASTROPHE by Samuel Beckett At Aberystwyth Arts Centre Thursday 11 – Friday 12 October 2012 KRAPP'S LAST TAPE revolves around Krapp, a man who keeps track of his past by compiling ledgers and making an annual tape recording of memories of the past year. Now an old man, he is preparing to make his next recording. He has his own ritual to go through which includes listening to the tape he made when aged 29: fragments of his past life – his mother, love, frustration, disappointments. And then he begins to record his latest memory …. The combination of seeing the Krapp the old man, his reactions to past memories and the comparison with his attempt to record the current tape provides a compelling portrait of the man. The play was written in English in 1958, is one of Beckett’s finest works and has attracted many great actors to take on the role, including Harold Pinter, Michael Gambon, and recently John Hurt. BOLD PRODUCTIONS are committed to presenting contemporary classics as productions by Pinter, Osborne, have proved. This is the first play by Samuel Beckett to be presented by the company and we have chosen to pair it with one of his more obscure and lesser known pieces - CATASTROPHE - in which an autocratic Director and his female Assistant put the final touches to the last scene of a of dramatic presentation which consists entirely of a man standing still on stage. Performances start at 7.45pm and tickets are £8 (£7). To book please contact Aberystwyth Arts Centre ticket office 01970 62 32 32 or go online www.aber.ac.uk/artscentre. |
