Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Saturday 13 October

And The Girls In Their Sunday Dresses brings together high drama and kooky comedy to examine life in modern day South Africa.

Centered on the relationship between the Lady (a vain and well-educated prostitute) and the Woman (a feisty domestic worker), this absorbing and insightful production compares the realities of two different walks of life. Witness two unlikely friends - who meet while waiting in a Losoto rice queue – bond over shared tales of heartbreak and struggle.

Rich with metaphor and symbolism, this charming two-hander deals with consequences of huge political change by focusing on personal stories. Adapted by (award winning novelist and playwright) Zakes Mda, from his 1993 novella of the same name, this play proved to be uncannily topical for South African audiences still struggling with the effects of recession.

And The Girls In Their Sunday Dresses is directed by Princess Mhlongo, who won the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Drama 2012 at the Grahamstown Festival. The cast comprises South African soap star Lesego Motsepe and, 2006 Standard Bank Young Artist Award Winner, Hlengiwe Lushaba. This team of outstanding talent create an enchanting, yet, unflinching portrayal of modern day life in South Africa.
