Mercury Musical Developments exists to support writers and composers of musical theatre, both in the UK and worldwide. Through a unique programme of opportunities and events, MMD offers its Associates the chance to gain workshop experience and professional expertise. Regular opportunities to gather and socialise are another important part of the support MMD can offer its Associates, allowing them to interact with their peers and offer each other guidance and support, as well as the chance to spark new ideas and embark upon new collaborations. Opportunities available to MMD Associates include: A fantastic Development Programme where writers can draw on the knowledge and expertise of leading musical theatre practitioners as their work is put through a rigorous, tailor-made programme including readings, staged readings and workshop presentations in a development process unmatched by any other organisation in Britain. Ongoing Partnership Projects and collaborations with national and international musical organisations. A Reading Service, where aspiring writers and producers can receive expert advice and professional evaluation of work from a reading team of established writers, directors, producers and musical directors. Musical Salons, a dynamic forum for MMD associates and industry professionals, giving them the chance to socialise and network in a relaxed environment. The Salons often involve a guest speaker, and previous speakers include Sir Alan Ayckbourn, Bill Brohn, Ned Sherrin. Future speakers include Nicholas Hytner and Sam Mendes. Writing Seminars to explore new writing techniques under the guidance of professionals. A West End showcase to present new work to the industry in the heart of the West End. An interactive website with a Backstage Area full of vital information for Associates only. An MMD 'Backstage Pass' is truly invaluable for writers and composers of musical theatre. MMD doesn't only support writers and composers of musical theatre. Our Theatre Associates are theatre companies, producers, directors, publishers and other theatre practitioners, all of whom benefit from a concentrated wealth of exciting new musical theatre. Theatre Associates are welcome at most MMD events and gatherings, and also have access to the Backstage section of the website. |
