BE FESTIVAL - Birmingham’s European theatre festival which seeks to cross cultural, linguistic and artistic borders - takes three of this year’s festival favourites on a wide-reaching tour of the UK this Autumn visiting Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Tuesday 23 October 2012. To book contact Aberystwyth Arts Centre ticket office on 01970 62 32 32 or go online www.aber.ac.uk/artscentre. Each show is no longer than 30 minutes, so in one evening audiences can experience a wide variety of international work and participate in a post-show feedback discussion with the artists. The evening will feel informal and celebratory, and in certain venues audiences and artists will be able to eat a sit-down meal in the interval. Festival co-director Mike Tweddle said ‘It’s a chance to see theatre you’d couldn’t see anywhere else, meet artists from other countries and understand the inspiration and techniques behind their work.’ Performed by companies from Granada, Brussels and Barcelona, the shows picked up an array of awards at the summer festival, including 1st Prize, Best Mise en Scene and the Audience Prize. The line-up is as follows: L’Absent by La Compagnie du Geste qui Sauve (Belgium) A moving story, beautifully told through the company’s unique approach to mime. A woman struggles with solitude and with the all-too-familiar objects that surround her. A non-verbal piece that speaks volumes. Fantasy Nº10: ‘The Beauty of Life’ by Vladimir Tzekov (Spain) An iconoclastic explosion of the myths we cling on to as truth. A feast of images, a cacophony of rhythms, a dance of words. These Granada-based performers are full of surprises, and they’ll do everything in their power to wrestle you into the present. Solfatara by A Tres Bandes (Catalunia) What happens when your fear comes round for dinner, and your deepest, darkest thoughts refuse to lie low? Catalan group A Tres Bandes has created a relentlessly inventive and hilarious play that brought the house down at BE FESTIVAL 2012 “There is plenty to savour at the boundary-smashing BE FESTIVALl” Lyn Gardner, Guardian www.befestival.org | facebook.com/befestival | @befestival | #BestofBE12 |
