Don Quixote comes to Blackwood in a boisterous new play Professional touring theatre company Hijinx Theatre brings The Adventures of Sancho Panza, a new play based on the epic tale Don Quixote, to Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Monday 22 October.

The Adventures of Sancho Panza is a vibrant contemporary adaptation of one of the greatest works of literature ever written, Cervantes’ Don Quixote. This Autumn, inclusive theatre company Hijinx Theatre retells the story through the eyes of Quixote’s companion, Sancho Panza, with a professional cast that includes actors with learning disabilities.

The story follows the travels of Sancho Panza and Don Quixote across an array of ordinary and extraordinary places and times. In a world that blurs real life and fiction, this unlikely pair - a comically idealistic knight and a modern young man – meet bandits, beasts, barbers and more on a journey of surprising discovery for Sancho.

The Adventures of Sancho Panza promises audiences a night of thoroughly enjoyable theatre. The cast of five actors, including several highly skilled musicians, conjures up the limitless imagination of Don Quixote through evocative live music, innovative use of masks and puppetry. The show is set to make the audience want to cry, laugh and get up and dance – all in the space of 75 minutes!

Hijinx Theatre, a pioneer of inclusive theatre, is committed to creating opportunities for people with learning disabilities to enjoy, participate and work professionally in the arts. Established over 30 years ago, the Cardiff-based company has been touring integrated casts - casts involving actorsboth with and without learning disabilities - in its professional shows since 2006.

Director James Williams said: “We have a fantastic cast, a graceful and poetic script, and some very catchy songs. I'm itching to get started. Audiences are in for a real treat!”

The Adventures Of Sancho Panza will be at Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Monday 22nd October at 7.30pm. Tickets cost just £8.00 and are available from the box office on 01495 227206 or online at www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com.
