From Ballet to Breakdance, Find Time to Discover Dance this November!

Discover Dance, Newport’s annual dance festival returns from 20 – 24 November and includes performances, workshops, visual arts exhibitions, dance-battles and more.

This year you will see local talented dancers performing next to internationally renowned dancers, watch quirky vintage-inspired dance and see the young guys battle it out in B-Boy Battle time! Plus there will be an exciting exhibition by Ballet Cymru in The Riverfront Art Gallery.

And if you get inspired by any of the dance performances, you’ll have the opportunity to try out one of the workshops which are running during the autumn and spring!

Award-winning choreographer and Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells, Jasmin Vardimon returns to The Riverfront with the world premiere tour of her hotly anticipated new work Freedom on Tuesday 20 November at 7.30pm. Choreographer Tanja Raman creates a stunning new work with digital artist John Collingswood, Beyond The Body, on Thursday 22 November at 7.30pm. John uses numerous cameras to create interesting projections that respond to the dancer’s dynamic movement, with music composed by Bristol’s finest cinematic ambient jazz pioneers, Eyebrow. Saturday 24 November is B-Boy Dance Battle time! Top judges will preside over various dance style battles, and there will be music form international DJ’s and a live percussion band! Rounding off Discover Dance is Kitch’n’Sync, a quirky dance theatre production which parodies the classic detective genre, inspired by vintage and retro fashion trends, film noir and electro swing music. Come dressed as a dapper dan or femme fatale and grab yourself a drink at the bar for this unique cabaret-esque performance on Saturday 24 November at 7.45pm.
