Wales Millennium Centre presents Texan writer and performer Greg Wohead in I like the way you wear your hair, an endearing true story of geeky teenage love set in small-town Texas. In this solo show, Greg brings the world of his teenage years—hot Texas summers, love poems and marching band practices—to an audience using storytelling and a miniprojector, which throws hand-drawn memories and DIY atmosphere on the walls floor and ceiling. Welcome to Greg’s bedroom in Mesquite, Texas, 1998. The Savage Garden CD is on repeat, there’s a pile of dirty laundry in the corner and he can’t stop thinking about Sara. In this solo performance Greg tells you—from the perspective of a geeky teenager—the true story of the night he took a chance. I like the way you wear your hair is a conversation with a past version of yourself. It’s about stomach butterflies, private thoughts and teenage crushes. Greg Wohead is a Texan writer and performer based in London. He’s an Artistic Associate at The Yard in Hackney Wick, an innovative warehouse theatre made of reclaimed material from the Olympic site. “Evocative autobiography and indie flick tales from Texas.” David Micklem, Artistic Director at Battersea Arts Centre, London “An honest and engaging lo-fi performance.” Helen Medland, Artistic Director at The Basement, Brighton “Wohead’s performance and projected drawings set the work apart from most in the usually unoriginal genre of teen-romance.” The Latest, Brighton Supported by Arts Council England, BAC, The Basement and Camden People’s LISTING INFORMATION Weston Studio, Wales Millennium Centre, Bute Place, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff CF10 5AL 029 2063 6464 http://www.wmc.org.uk/ Performance: 20 November, 8.00pm Tickets: £8-£12 Tickets can be booked at the following link: https://www.wmc.org.uk/Productions/ 2012-2013/18961/WearYourHair/ Age guide: 12+ Approximate running time: 50 minutes gregwohead.com Twitter: @gregwohead |
