Inky Quill's mini-touring horror show 'Shudders' left Cardiff quaking on Halloween 2011 and now, in partnership with Blackwood Miners' Institute, they bring a fresh selection of stage horror to full scale theatre production on Wednesday 31st October. The company, Inky Quill Productions, formed by Tir Y Berth's Jonathan Holcroft and Ystrad Mynach's Rick Allden in 2009, have been inspired by a passion for original invention in the horror genre and leaving behind tired cliche. The format is simple, collecting new works of stage horror from South Wales writers, and staging them together as a compendium of macabre Halloween thrills. Four new plays for 2012 include: Neil Bebber's award winning Meat - a tale from a young trading butcher whose fascination with and nostalgic glorification of meat becomes the single unbroken fibre in his mind as his strained family tears away from him. Presented in primal colour and infused with the visceral music of the Deftones, this piece will get under your skin. Rip Her To Shreds - Jonathan Holcroft's moonlit script pries open the door of a suburban house to find a relationship of sadistic mind games. Our leading lady bares the spectrum of her emotion and a desperate need for control over her monstrous fiance. See how the power of love, expectation and disappointment brings out the beast in both of them. The Cask of Amontillado - as reimagined by Rick Allden and given to expressionist physical performance. The skeletal "Catacomb" performers provide a shifting setting of sinew and stone, lantern lit and dripping with atmosphere. When the pompous wine connoisseur Fortunato adds insult to injury, the hardened Montresor exacts hideous revenge. Hello Sunshine - Neil Bebber's refreshing rumination on death and eternity examines the possibilities of friendship in vampirism, and what it means to spend four hundred and seven years, three months, two weeks and twenty two hours together. With a cast made up of some of the finest acting talent around, don't miss this one night only performance, for a Halloween night to remember… Shudders will be at Blackwood Miners Institute on Wednesday 31st October at 7.30pm. Tickets cost just £6.00 (£5.00 concs) and are available from the box office on 01495 227206 or online at www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com. |
