The Wales Arts Review is to host it’s first ever Critics Roundtable, which is to become an annual event, in Cardiff this November and topping the bill is author and playwright Niall Griffiths. The team at Wales Arts Review Wales recently announced that this years Panellists also include Guardian theatre critic Lyn Gardner, National Theatre Wales director John McGrath, legendary arts journalist Linda Christmas, writer and broadcaster Jon Gower, ITV political editor Adrian Masters and arts critic Jasper Rees. Members of the Wales Arts Review team will also be speaking at the event. More names are expected to be announced in the upcoming weeks. Created by a group of writers, earlier this year Wales Arts Review is an online journal featuring the very best of contemporary arts criticism in Wales and the website is the new ‘critical writing hub for Wales’. The online resource provides Wales, and the rest of the world with quality critical coverage of the arts in Wales and allows new critics the chance to write about and review books, theatre, film, music, the visual arts and the media. A vibrant arts scene is the expression of a confident and creative society and the creators Gary Raymond, Dylan Moore and friends see this venture as another important building block in the new outward-looking forward thinking Wales. On November 17th 2012 Wales Arts Review will launch its new website, ushering in a new and exciting era for arts criticism. To mark this occasion the new and creative team are hosting the first of their annual Critics Roundtable events at the fabulous Richard Burton Theatre in the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. To celebrate the launch of the new website Wales Arts Review are hosting a series of live panel debates throughout the afternoon chaired by their editors and introducing many exciting and important guest speakers. Topics up for discussion will include ‘Theatre and Truth’, ‘High Art versus Popular Culture’, and, in a nod to the man who gave his name to our host venue, ‘Richard Burton and the Myth of the Celtic Firebrand’. The Roundtable is FREE TO ATTEND, but if you wish to attend you will need to register via the Wales Arts Review Website (http://www.walesartsreview.org/). More information and a detailed schedule will be released shortly, so keep an eye on the Website and local press for details. Not only will the Roundtable see the launch of the site and promise some exhilarating debate between some of the leading figures in arts journalism but it will also be a great day for anyone who has an interest in the arts world/community in Wales.
