Action Hero perform ‘A Western’ at Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Tuesday 20 – Wednesday 21 November, 2012. Together with their audience, two performers create ‘a western’ in the theatre bar at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Tuesday 20 – Wednesday 21 November, 2012. Action Hero are Bristol-based artists making live art and performance. With only a cowboy hat and some ketchup Action Hero reclaim this chaotic half-arsed Western as their own and celebrate the failure of generic heroes, cheap whores and the all American idol. ‘A Western has a really lo fi DIY aesthetic.’ Says James Stenhouse (Co-artistic director). ‘It’s a site responsive work in a bar, so it’s about using the environment and the audience around us as a resource to replace the conventional set and props of a theatre piece. In A Western we want the audience to have the chance to contribute to something extraordinary and feel part of the event. We’re really interested in the western genre and the piece plays with the notion of the cinematic epic, of heroes, whores and bad guys and with archetypal scenes that appear in nearly every western.’ ‘We want to make a Western. We have a cowboy hat and some ketchup We want the scene where our hero walks into the bar and everyone stops talking. We want the scene where our hero walks into the bar and everyone stops talking. We want the scene where the whore begs to be loved. We want to cheat at cards. We want blood and guns. Everyone wil have a moustache. All the bad guys laugh. Dust blows across a deserted street. Music.’ www.actionhero.org.uk To book contact Aberystwyth arts Centre 01970 62 32 32 or go online www.aber.ac.uk/artscentre |
