Strange happenings in The Circus of Horrors at the New Theatre, Cardiff

The Circus of Horrors rolls into the New Theatre, Cardiff from Thursday 31 January – Saturday 2 February with the new sensation which stormed into the finals of Britain's Got Talent. Packed with new shocks, The Devil Doll will take audiences on a whirlwind journey back to 1927 Berlin.

The Devil Doll is a sequel to last years critically acclaimed show The Ventriloquist. With the Ventriloquist new dead, his demonic dummy seems to take on a life of its own. Featuring fangtastic, daredevil and bizarre Circus acts from all four corners of the world including sword swallowers, demon dwarfs, hair hanging beauties, an iron- jawed diva, voodoo acrobats, knife throwers and much more, The Circus of Horrors will have the whole theatre on the edge of its seat!

The name The Devil Doll stemmed from a series of bizarre and near fatal incidents happened during the last tour. Dr Haze, creator of The Circus of Horrors commented. “It all started with vehicles that carried the Doll unexplainably blowing up, but a week into the tour and things took a definite turn for the worse”. The show was appearing in Bradford and, during a sequence where the Doll appeared to be brought to life with the aid of a Tesla coil, sword swallower Hannibal Hellmurto swallowed a lit Neon tube.

Dr Haze continues “swallowing a neon tube is regarded as the most dangerous of all sword swallowing stunts. It can shatter & send glass, Mercury & electricity into your body. Thankfully none of these actually happened, but a dry throat did cause the tube to rip a 20mm hole in his oesophagus”.’ He was rushed to hospital and kept in intensive care for 4 weeks then a further 2 weeks in a general ward.

During this period more vehicles were unexplainably breaking down and each time, it was always the vehicle carrying the Doll. After Christmas though ‘The Curse’ seemed to increase its intensity culminating in a mini bus carrying half of the cast breaking down in a remote area and almost swerving off the road. The Doll was lying down on the back seat. The cast all jumped out of the van but when they looked inside the window, they found that the jolt had thrown the Doll into a sitting position and triggered a switch that lit his glowing red eyes. Many of the cast refused to travel in the van again.

Unperturbed, instead of burning the Doll it was decided that a sequel should be written that will reveal the true identity of the ‘The Puppet Master’.

Eighteen years after its conception at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival The Circus of Horrors has gone on to tour the world, achieving cult status.
