Sherman Cymru’s Youth Theatre ‘Dress Up’ for a catwalk promenade performance, 10 years after its original show.
100 young people from Sherman Cymru’s Youth Theatre will be producing their own unique performance, played out on a catwalk but was originally based on an idea that was created by former Sherman Youth Theatre members 10 years ago. Dressing Up Too will see the youth theatre members perform at their home, Sherman Theatre on 21-23 February.

As part of Dressing Up Too, Sherman Youth Theatre members will be exploring their relationship with themselves and others and how our ever growing consumer society influences perceptions of reality. The show will also feature special guests aged 80+. The group, many of whom are part of the Cardiff Story Project at the Old Library, will now be working collectively to produce a piece of theatre with the young people of Cardiff.

Staged on a 10 metre catwalk, Dressing Up Too will examine the aspirations, goals and expectations young people hold for themselves and others and why this might be.

The quirky fashion show will utilise sound, film, spoken word and movement and step into the performer’s worlds to understand how internal desires express themselves through external image.

Head of Creative Learning, Phillip Mackenzie said:
“Dressing Up Too will see the entire youth theatre peform on the main stage at Sherman Cymru. It’s a very exciting project which allows members to discuss perceptions and explore their lives.”

Tutor for one of the theatre groups, George Goding, was in the original Dressing Up back in 2003. He said:
“Its an amazing opportunity for these young people to think about performing on a catwalk. Although based on the original from 10 years ago, this show will still be unique. First time around I remember the local design college created our costumes, where as this time the members will be choosing what they want to wear and creating their own costumes.”

Sherman Youth Theatre’s Dressing Up Too will be at Sherman Cymru, Cardiff from 21-23 February, 7.30pm. Tickets are £8, concessions £2 off and half price tickets for under 25s. For further information and tickets, please contact Sherman Cymru on 029 2064 6900 or visit www.shermancymru.co.uk.
