Short Festival of Drama - Sides of the Same Coin - March 2013 |
An opportunity to experience two Welsh plays by leading Welsh companies as the Furnace begins its commitment to a far-reaching program of theatre productions and live events in the Welsh language.Turbulent stubborn periods - centuries apart. Despite the intervening years, human spirit, strong principles and beliefs are overcome, as one woman from Carmarthenshire fights for her rights in the fifties, while the owners a 'thriving’ shipping company in Anglesey combat human losses during the Victorian era . Conflict, struggle and desire to change the world for the better... Two Dramas. One Short Festival. The Joe Scheme: Get 20% off the ticket price when you buy for both productions at the same time. Ffwrnes - 4th, 5th & 15th of March 2013. Ffwrnes, Park Street, Llanelli www.theatrausirgar.co.uk | 08450 226 3510 Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru presents “DYLED EILEEN” March 4th and 5th 2013 The burning of Llyn Peninsula School first raised Eileen Beasley’s awareness of her Welshness. A fifteen year old schoolgirl at the time, she could not believe the hatred towards the Three in Penyberth. There was little discussion of politics at home on the farm, but she saw that injustice was present in Wales and that the Welsh suffered at the hands of authorities. A history of Eileen and Trefor Beasley’s stance against English taxes and bills which posed a long battle in which they lost almost all their possessions to bailiffs as they cleared their parlour piece by piece. Angharad Tomos’ portrait brings the troubled period of the 50’s alive - before the famous radio lecture by Saunders Lewis - and leading us to remember the sacrifice of the young couple and their unrelenting struggle for fairness into Welsh. Cast: Rhian Morgan as Eileen Beasley Director: Elen Bowman Theatr Bara Caws presents “HWYLIAU’N CODI”, March 15th 2013 Back in time we go, to the reign of Queen Victoria, and join John, Robert & Richard Davies (and his wife Ann) - prosperous shipping company owners from Anglesey - along with a host of other suspicious characters and degenerates! The company was responsible for transporting hundreds of Welshmen, coal and goods of all kinds from Liverpool & London to the world and returned with several cargos - more specifically, the smelly guano from the remote islands of the West coast of South America. But the downside was the losses among the high-ships, many of them disappeared forever and a number of sailors were swept off the deck or fell from the rigging in severe weather. A chance to relive one of the first productions ever from Cwmni Theatr Bara Caws! Cast: Gwion Aled, Rhian Blythe, Mirain Haf, Carwyn Llyr, Rhodri Siôn Director: Betsan Llwyd |
