Shakespeare’s most famous play to be performed at Bedwas Workmen’s Hall |
The wonderful new production from Black RAT Productions - Romeo & Juliet will be performed a BEDWAS WORKMEN’S HALL on Thursday 28th February at 7.00pm, whilst the ‘Stute’s auditorium is temporarily closed for building works. Believed to have been written between 1591 and 1595, Romeo and Juliet was among William Shakespeare’s most popular plays during his lifetime, and it belongs to a long line of tragic romances known throughout time. As most people know, the story is about two ill-fated lovers, Romeo and Juliet, whose love is caught in the middle of their two feuding families. Rebelling against their relatives, Romeo and Juliet secretly marry, despite her family’s plans to wed her to Count Paris. But any plans for their future happiness are cruelly destroyed by renewed violence between the two families – and while the adults remain preoccupied with their own affairs, among their children a hidden tragedy begins to unfold. Black RAT's production puts the young characters at the centre of the play. Energetic and vibrant, the turbulent world of Verona is depicted onstage using young performers working alongside professional actors. This is a wonderful opportunity to see this beautiful play at an affordable price. Black RAT Productions and Blackwood Miners' Institute have established a very successful working relationship, previously working together on a highly successful tour of Bouncers with Mike Doyle (2009, 2010), and Up ‘n’ Under: The Welsh Tour (2011) which was especially adapted for the company by John Godber, and most recently Neville’s Island by Tim Firth (2012). Romeo & Juliet will be at Bedwas Workmen’s Hall on Thursday 28th February at 7.00pm. Tickets cost just £6.50 and are available from Blackwood Miners’ Institute’s Box Office on 01495 227206 or online at www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com . |
