First shown in 2004, Past Half Remembered went on to smash hit success in Edinburgh, London and New York and now comes to Sherman Theatre in Cardiff on 27 & 28 March at 8pm. Winner of the Herald Angel and Total Theatre awards, Past Half Remembered tells the story of Maria Michaliovna whose life spans the Soviet century. The audience is introduced to the one hundred year‐old Russian Maria, who is looking back over her life and remembering her husband Noam. The six‐person cast speak five different languages throughout the piece, and employ many theatrical techniques to stage a love story that spans the first half of the twentieth century.The Reds and the Whites do battle, the Germans invade, tea is served from a samovar, there is a very big wedding, and somebody gets an umbrella shoved up their nose! New International Encounter (NIE) present a remarkable tale of love, loss, calamity and hope using their trademark mix of physical theatre, storytelling, multiple languages, european ensemble and live music. NIE are an award-winning company of actors, musicians, set designers and theatre directors from all over Europe. They create spellbinding physical theatre, which has been performed in 27 countries spanning 3 continents from New York to Shanghai. In May 2011, NIE were awarded the ASSITEJ prize for Artistic Excellence at the World Congress in Sweden/ Denmark for their outstanding contribution to theatre making for young audiences over the last 10 years.
