ACW LAUNCHES YEAR OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN THE ARTS IN WALES |
|
The Year of Cultural Diversity in the Arts in Wales will start in June 2002, as part of The UK Year of Cultural Diversity in the Arts, and will be run in partnership with the Arts Council of England and the Scottish Arts Council. Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Culture, Sport and the Welsh Language, Jenny Randerson AM, will announce details of additional funding to ACW that has enabled the Council to establish its new Cultural Diversity Funding Scheme. Jenny Randerson AM said "I am proud to announce a new Arts Council of Wales scheme to celebrate cultural diversity in Wales one year after launching the Arts Council's Cultural Diversity Strategy. This new funding scheme has been made possible through an additional £150,000 provided by the Welsh Assembly Government to The Arts Council of Wales, towards establishing this scheme." The new Cultural Diversity funding scheme aims to help artists and arts organisations throughout Wales celebrate the year of Cultural Diversity, and enables ACW to implement its Cultural Diversity Strategy. The scheme is open to organisations in Wales, but ACW particularly wishes to target individual artists from ethnic minority backgrounds who have previously been under-represented in grant awards. Dewi Walters, Deputy Chairman of ACW said "The Arts Council of Wales is delighted to be launching its new Cultural Diversity funding scheme. This is the next stage in our commitment to ensuring all individuals and communities in Wales have equal access to the services and grants ACW can offer." ACW's launch takes place during a day of arts events in Blackwood, which commences with workshops aimed at school pupils throughout the County Borough of Caerphilly. The event is being held in conjunction with Gwent Police who are launching their new racial reporting form and the Caerphilly Multi Agency Forum Against Racism who are launching a selection of literature aimed at creating harmony within the County Borough of Caerphilly and highlighting the avenues that can be taken by those subjected to racial abuse. Blackwood Miners Institute is a revenue client of The Arts Council of Wales. |
