Olivier Award nominated Best New Play, Tim Price’s Salt, Root and Roe comes to Sherman Theatre |
Tim Price’s play, Salt, Root and Roe which was nominated for Best New Play at the Olivier Awards is now being produced by Clwyd Theatr Cymru and will be coming to Sherman Theatre from 7-11 May, 8pm. Salt, Root and Roe is a funny, lyrical play about love, loss and the power of belief. Set on the North Pembrokeshire coast, Iola and Anest are identical twin sisters who live in isolation. Iola is struggling with a brain tumour and Anest finds it increasingly difficult to care for her. When Anest’s daughter Menna receives a letter from her aunt she comes back to the family home to make new discoveries about who she is, where she’s from and what it means to be alive. Welsh writer, Tim Price has had a string of recent successes with his plays The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning (National Theatre Wales), Will and George (Soho Theatre) and For Once (Hampstead Theatre and Sherman Cymru). He is also working on the new National Theatre Wales show Praxis Makes Perfect which opens in May. His TV scripts range from EastEnders, Holby City and Casualty (BBC) to The Secret Diary of A Call Girl (ITV) and Caerdydd (S4C). For Y Pris (S4C) he won Best Drama at the Prix Europa 2008. Tim Price is a founder member of the Cardiff based theatre company Dirty Protest. Iola is played by Sara Harris-Davies (Y Pris, Cowbois Ac Injans (S4C) and A Mind To Kill) and familiar face to stage and screen Betsan Llwyd plays Anest (Betsan was named BAFTA Cymru Best Actress for Y T_r and Y Wisg Sidan and International Best Actress for Un Nos Ola’ Leuad). Menna is played by Catrin Aaron has performed in Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s A Doll’s House and Roots. Brendan Charleson (known for his performances in The Accrington Pals at the Royal Exchange and Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s Glengarry Glen Ross and Roots) will be playing Gareth. Clwyd Theatr Cymru Associate Director Kate Wasserberg directs Salt, Root and Roe following her acclaimed productions of Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet and Bruised by Matthew Trevannion in Mold. Her other recent work also includes Last Christmas by Matthew Bulgo, a Clwyd Theatr Cymru/Dirty Protest co-production and part of the Celtic Festival. Salt, Root and Roe will be at Sherman Theatre from 7-11 May, 8pm. Tickets are £15. Concessions £2 off and under 25s half price tickets.
