Sherman Cymru has today announced that its Director, Chris Ricketts, has indicated his intention to step down from his post in order to pursue new interests in the performing arts sector. He will continue in post for an agreed period whilst the company seeks his replacement. Sherman Cymru’s trustees wish to place on record their sincere thanks to Chris for his commitment over the last six years and wish him every success in his new ventures. Chris joined the company in early 2007, successfully completing the merger between the Sherman Theatre Company and Sgript Cymru that Sherman Cymru was set-up to achieve. He led the development of the framework for the new company’s artistic programme, overseeing the production of landmark projects such as Deep Cut and Llwyth and the re-positioning of the Sherman’s visiting company programme as a result of which many of the UK’s best theatre and dance companies have visited Cardiff. A major part of his work over the past six years has been devoted to the redevelopment of the Sherman theatre building, which reopened to much praise in February 2012 following a £7 million capital investment programme. Chris commented: “It has been a real honour to have led Sherman Cymru, to have worked with so many talented and devoted people, to have hosted so many exceptional artists and productions, and over the last year to have seen the Sherman reopened and again fulfilling its special role within the fabric of Cardiff’s cultural life.” |
