May 16 & 17, 2013, Aberystwyth Arts Centre Many people take the features of our towns for granted without ever considering the important work that takes place in the planning stage. Why, for example, are modern lamp posts so tall or the spaces in car parks so maddeningly narrow? The questions multiply when we consider examples beyond these shores and look at rickshaw ranks, camel parks and dhow moorings. After too long an absence from the Open Platform stage, Jez Danks returns to Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 May, 2013, with “Town Planing”, a no-holds-barred investigation that promises to enthral both urban and rural dwellers alike. This latest show will attempt to deal with complex issues in a meaningful and stimulating way; featuring original dialogue, diagrams and as ever, the show will be peppered with music and song Since being cast as King Herod in the Infant school Nativity play over sixty years ago, Jez Danks has been involved in a truly staggering range of performances. From early days in Church halls and the now legendary Flavel Social & Athletic club, further invaluable experience was gained in London, from pubs in the East End to a Monster Night of Rock show at the Albert hall. After moving to Wales in 1971, Jez has made many musical connections: teaching in local schools, leading the band Kolomeyka, as musical director & performer for Equilibre Horse theatre, singing with Heartsong and Cor y Gors, and writing and performing a series of ten one man shows from 2005 to 2010 at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre through the Open Platform programme.
