New Theatre installs dedicated lift for disabled theatregoers |
The New Theatre, Cardiff is delighted to announce the installation of a new lift for disabled theatregoers to utilise parts of the theatre which were previously inaccessible or reachable only with difficulty. The development is the latest in a line of changes and improvements that the theatre has implemented to make the Edwardian building more accessible. As a result of the lift being installed the theatre has been able to create three new opportunities for wheelchair users. There is one on row M of the Circle and one each in Boxes G and H. Including the existing Stalls wheelchair positions, the auditorium now has room for 9 wheelchair users at each performance. The lift is also available for other theatregoers who have difficulty with stairs. Operations Manager Grant McFarlane says “Installing a lift in an Edwardian theatre in a manner so sympathetic to the feel of the building is no easy task and a lot of people have worked tirelessly to make it possible. I am very pleased with the achievement and delighted that we can now make this facility available to our customers.” For more information about the lift, please phone (029) 2087 8790, email ntmailings@cardiff.gov.uk or visit www.newtheatrecardiff.co.uk/access. Wheelchair positions can be booked via the Box Office by calling 029 2087 8889 (for technical reasons they are not available via online sales).
