Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru (the Welsh language National theatre) is about to embark on an exciting community project in Gwynedd, north Wales that will bring two communities and two separate locations together to create a unique project based on the story of Blodeuwedd. ‘Blodyn’, that is being led by the author and director Bethan Marlow, will be created by the people of Blaenau Ffestiniog and Talysarn, Dyffryn Nantlle over the next few weeks and performances will be on 13-16 June 2013 in both communities. ‘Blodyn’ is a promenade theatre piece that will include art, singing, acting, dancing andmore. It is a unique, modern and relevant version of the Mabinogi tale ‘Blodeuwedd’. The local communities will be assisted in creating the piece with the help of artist Anna Fôn, musician Gai Toms, choreographer Sarah Mumford and filmmaker Owain Llyr. Bethan Marlow is the author and director and Sara Lloyd will be Associate Director. The artists will hold various workshops in both communities with volunteers over the coming weeks so that ‘Blodyn ‘ can be created. Bethan Marlow said: “It is very exciting to be creating something on such a large scale across two communities in Blaenau and Talysarn. Interest in the project so far has been astonishing with lots of volunteers coming forward to help with the different aspects of the production. I hope that we can work together to create a unique piece that will give a voice to both communities in a way that has never been done before. Be prepared to be amazed!’ Blodyn will be performed on Thursday and Friday 13-14 June 2013 in Talysarn and Saturday and Sunday 15-16 June in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Tickets are available from Antur Nantlle, Penygroes 01286 882688, or Siop Lyfrau’r Hen Bost, Blaenau Ffestiniog 01766 831802. Prices are £5 for adults, £2 for children, pensioners and unemployed and a family ticket for £12. Blodyn will be performed just a few weeks before Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s site specific production of Saunders Lewis’ famous play ‘Blodeuwedd’ opens in the same area at Tomen y Mur, Trawsfynydd.
