MIKE DOYLE TO TREAD THE BOARDS IN THIS YEAR’S NEW THEATRE PANTOMIME AS DAME TROT! |
The New Theatre, Cardiff has announced that the hugely-popular Carmarthenshire funnyman and performer Mike Doyle will join the cast of this year’s spectacular family pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk. The theatre has already announced that Julian Clary will lead the cast in the role of Spirit of the Beans. Mike, a larger-than-life panto veteran whose showmanship, comic timing and rich singing voice score a hit with audiences every time he steps on stage, will be donning his frock again this year in the role of Dame Trot. Famed for his show-stopping sense of humour and powerful voice, Mike is an acclamied star of HTV, BBC Wales, on radio and in the theatre. His sell-out one-man shows play to theatres all over the UK and in Europe. Since winning Opportunity Knocks in 1988 he has become one of the most multi-talented performers in the UK, appearing on numerous television series and programmes including The Royal Variety Show, Des O'Connor Show, Celebrity Squares and The Generation Game. He received Stage Comedy Newcomer of the Year at the British Comedy Awards and had his own network series for both BBC, Something for the Weekend, and for HTV The Mike Doyle Show. In London's West End, Mike received great critical acclaim for his larger than life portrayal of the Big Bopper in Buddy at the Victoria Palace Theatre and Vince Fontaine and Teen Angel in Grease at the Dominion Theatre. Mike performs regularly as a headline act for some of the world's finest cruise lines. Grant McFarlane, Operations Manager at the New Theatre, commented “It’s been too long since Mike was in a New Theatre panto and so I am delighted that he will be back here this Christmas to star alongside Julian Clary.” Jack and the Beanstalk will be staged by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s largest pantomime producer, and the company behind last year’s hugely-successful Sleeping Beauty. Jonathan Kiley, executive producer of Jack and the Beanstalk, said, “The Theatre’s annual pantomime provides a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to come together to enjoy a memorable visit to the theatre. We are delighted to have put together such a fabulous cast for this year’s pantomime and audiences can look forward to an unmissable production packed with an abundance of comedy, sensational musical numbers together with fabulous sets and costumes. This is pantomime at its very best!” Jack and the Beanstalk runs at New Theatre, Cardiff from Saturday 14 December 2013 to Sunday 19 January 2014.
