The New Theatre has today announced six new shows coming to Cardiff this winter. Big names including Felicity Kendall, Simon Callow, Lynda Bellingham and Paul Michael Glaser, are sure to brighten up the long nights at the popular city centre venue. The shows they will be appearing in are Kindertransport (12 - 16 November), Chin Chin (26 - 30 November), The Holly and the Ivy (4 - 7 December), The Full Monty (23 January - 1 February 2014), Fiddler on the Roof (4 - 8 February 2014) and A Passionate Woman (10 - 15 February 2014).From Tuesday 12 – Saturday 16 November comes Diane Samuels’ play, Kindertransport. This modern classic examines the life of a Kindertransport child during and after the Second World War. Separated from her German-Jewish parents and brought to Britian with the promise of a new life, nine-year-old Eva ends up in Manchester through the Kindertransport (children’s transport) programme. When Eva's parents fail to escape Germany, the child changes her name and begins the process of denial of her roots. It is only when her own daughter discovers some letters in their attic that Eva is forced to confront the truth about her past. From Tuesday 26 – Saturday 30 November Felicity Kendall and Simon Callow pair up in the bittersweet comedy Chin Chin. This tender and amusing story set in Paris tells of a wildly incompatible man and woman who come together to pool their emotional losses when they discover their spouses are having an affair with each other. From Wednesday 4 – Saturday 7 December, there’s the seasonal drama The Holly and the Ivy. In a Norfolk vicarage on Christmas Eve 1947 a family gather for the festive season. Peace and goodwill radiates from the warm-hearted elderly vicar, cared for by his young daughter. But with the arrival of two irritable aunts and an errant daughter the scene is set for some family disharmony. The hit show The Full Monty visits Cardiff from Tuesday 23 January – Saturday 1 February 2014, just prior to its West End season. Directed by Cardiff’s Daniel Evans, this gloriously funny play is adapted from the hugely successful film and follows a group of unemployed men from Sheffield as they strive to become bigger than the Chippendales! From Tuesday 4 – Saturday 8 February 2014 there’s a new production of one of the world’s favourite musicals, Fiddler on the Roof. Filled to the brim with classic songs like If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker and Sunrise Sunset, Fiddler On The Roof tells the story Tevye, who finds his devotion to Jewish traditions challenged by his headstrong daughters. Directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, Fiddler on the Roof features Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky in the iconic 70s TV series Starsky & Hutch) in the title role. Finally, Lynda Bellingham and Christopher Timothy star in Kay Mellor’s glorious comedy A Passionate Woman from Monday 10 – Saturday 15 February 2014. Lynda stars as Betty, a woman whose memories of the men in her life are reawakened on the morning of her son’s wedding. She finds herself torn between a husband she’s never really loved, the son she’s about to lose and a man she had a passionate affair with over thirty years ago. A Passionate Woman from the multi-award winning producers of Calendar Girls, Brief Encounter and ART comes to Cardiff as part of its pre-West End tour. All these shows are now on sale.
