Children’s favourite Grandpa in My Pocket comes to the stage for the first time |
There’s a treat in store for young fans of the hit CBeebies television show Grandpa in My Pocket as it hits the stage for the first time in a new show, Grandpa in My Pocket – Teamwork! at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Thursday 4 – Sunday 7 July. Sunnysands Pirate, Horatio Heave Ho takes Jason and Jemima on a pirate adventure in search of treasure. But when things start to go wrong, it’s time for Grandpa to put on his shrinking cap and save the day. Grandpa in my Pocket – Teamwork! is a brand new story told by a young ensemble cast who bring all the favourite characters and places to life. The actor playing Jason, Javan Hughes, says that if he were small for a day he would set up a mini ski resort in his freezer! He is joined but Ebony Feare (Miss Smiley/Jemima), Lizzie Franks (Mum/Great Aunt Loretta), Robin Simpson (Grandpa/Mr Whoops), Dave Superville (Horatio) and Sam Worboys (Dad/Mr Mentor/Mr Liker Biker). Writers Mellie Buse and Jan Page say of the show, “The theatre show offered us the opportunity to tell a ‘Grandpa’ story that we could never tell on television because if the constraints. The magic is still there but it’s a theatrical magic, and, interestingly, this kind of magic is very accessible to children because it’s the kind of magic that they can imitate themselves.” Nottingham Playhouse has produced a show which will delight and engage audiences through an ensemble storytelling technique, song, dance puppetry and audience interaction. Grandpa in My Pocket is one of the highest rating shows on CBeebies and has sold to over 100 countries around the world. Produced, and filmed partly in Wales, it has received tree BAFTA nominations and is winner of the Welsh BAFTA for Best Children’s Show.
