Welsh stars take over 40th Anniversary tour of
The Rocky Horror Show at the New Theatre
Richard O’Brien’s outrageous classic The Rocky Horror Show is thrusting its way back to the New Theatre Cardiff from Monday 8 – Saturday 13 July to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. It stars Wales’ own Rhydian as Rocky and Oliver Thornton as the celebrated Frank N Furter. Joining them are Dani Harmer as Janet and Sam Attwater as Brad.

Featuring the timeless classics Sweet Transvestite, Damit Janet and The Time Warp, the world’s favourite rock ‘n’ roll musical has seduced audiences for more forty years with its pelvic thrusts, corsets and killer stilettos! The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of engaged sweethearts Brad and Janet who are forced to seek refuge in a castle full of the maddest, baddest and sexiest group the world has ever seen.

Leading the hugely talented cast are Welsh stars, Rhydian and Oliver Thornton. Best known for his appearance in X Factor in 2007, Rhydian plays the mad scientist Frank ‘n’ Furter. He is a classically trained singer whose debut album, Rhydian, went double platinum. His second album, O Fortuna, was nominated for a Classic BRIT Award for Album of the Year. In 2011 he released an album of Welsh songs Caneuon Cymraeg, and a Classical Pop album, Waves. A versatile performer, his repertoire covers every genre including presenting, and roles in both touring, and the West End productions of We Will Rock You, Grease and The War of the Worlds.

Abergavenny born Oliver Thornton trained at Mountview Academy of Performing Arts in London. He has starred in many West End shows including Prescilla Queen of the Desert, Rent, Starlight Express, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and Chicago.

They are joined by EastEnders star and Dancing on Ice winner, Sam Attwater (Brad) and Tracy Beaker and Strictly star Dani Harmer (Janet).

Richard O’Brien is the writer of the The Rocky Horror Show which premiered at the Royal Court Theatre on 19 June 1973. He starred in the 1975 film adaptation as Riff Raff and is also widely recognised as the presenter of the popular TV show The Crystal Maze. Since premiering, the stage show has been in almost continuous production and the cult cinematic version is one of the best known and most ardently followed films of all time.
