With only a week to go until the unique performance of Saunders Lewis’ classic play opens, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, the Welsh language National theatre, is urging the audience to book their tickets in advance to avoid disappointment as ticket sales are going well. The Welsh language national theatre company will perform Blodeuwedd on the site of Tomen y Mur, Trawsfynydd, Gwynedd – the spiritual home of Blodeuwedd – and tickets are now on sales from Galeri Caernarfon for £15/£12 with further discounts for groups. Arwel Gruffydd, Artistic Director of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is the director of this site specific, open air production and the cast include Morfydd Clark as Blodeuwedd, Rhys Bidder of Pobol y Cwm fame as Gronw Pebr, Iddon Jones as Llew, Glyn Pritchard as Gwydion, Non Haf as Rhagnell, Martin Thomas as Penteulu Penllyn and Owain Llyr Edwards as the Servant. The production will open on 05 July 2013 until 20 July 2013, with a preview night on 04 July where the ticket will be at a reduced price. On Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday’s there will be a matinee and evening performance. As this is an open air production, and the Summer in Wales is so unpredictable, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru are urging the audience to dress depending on the weather and to ensure that they wear appropriate footwear for walking on uneven surfaces. Arwel Gruffydd, Artistic Director of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru said: “If any play can justify calling itself the main play of the Welsh language, then surely Blodeuwedd is that play? With every line a wonderful piece of poetry, its themes, and the craft of Saunders Lewis, it is an honor for us all to work with this beautiful classic.
