The Ambassador Theatre Group will be holding open auditions on Saturday 13th July at Cardiff New Theatre for the chance to join the cast of the Rocky Horror Show on stage, as part of the 40th Anniversary UK Tour, with a performance at The Bristol Hippodrome on Tuesday 20th August 2013.
The producers will ask those auditioning to firstly perform The Time Warp as part of a group with other performers for the chance to go through to the second round where they will get to perform one solo number, from a choice of four Rocky Horror songs; Science Fiction, Touch Me, Sweet Transvestite or Once In A While. One male and one female will be selected from the auditions to perform their song on stage in front of an audience of over 1,000 Rocky Horror fans, as part of the show finale on Tuesday 20th August, at the Bristol Hippodrome.
Time is running out for anyone who wants to enter the open auditions, and performers need to register online at www.rockyhorror.co.uk/auditions. Registration closes on Thursday 11th July. Hopefuls should arrive at the Cardiff New Theatre, Park Place, Cardiff CF10 3LN at 9:30am on Saturday 13th July. The audition panel will comprise of Rocky Horror Show Director Chris Luscombe, Musical Director Tony Castro and Choreographer Nathan Wright. Audition places are limited and everyone who auditions should be dressed as a Rocky Horror Show character.
When the Rocky Horror Show 40th Anniversary Tour arrives at The Bristol Hippodrome, Ben Forster, winner of ITV1’s Superstar and star of the global arena tour Jesus Christ Superstar, will have returned to the role of Brad. He will be joined by West End actor Oliver Thornton, who stars as the lead character of Frank ‘n’ Furter. Director of The Rocky Horror Show, Christopher Luscombe, will star at The Narrator in his first stage role in over a decade. Other cast members will be announced soon.
The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of Brad and his fiancée Janet, two squeaky clean college kids who meet Dr Frank ’n’ Furter by chance when their car breaks down outside his house, while en route to visit their former college professor. It is an adventure they’ll never forget, with fun, frolics, frocks, and frivolity, bursting with timeless songs and outrageous outfits. Directed by Christopher Luscombe, the Rocky Horror Show is a guaranteed party, which famously combines science-fiction, horror, comedy and music and encourages audience participation meaning, of course, getting dressed in your most outrageous fancy dress.
Since its first appearance at the Royal Court Theatre in June 1973, Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show has become the world’s favourite Rock N’ Roll musical. It has been performed worldwide for nearly 40 years in over 30 countries in every continent and has been translated into more than 20 languages.
Many stars, including Russell Crowe, Tim Curry, Jerry Springer and Meatloaf have appeared in The Rocky Horror Show over the past 40 years.
