Local dancers perform in English Youth Ballet’s Giselle at the New Theatre, Cardiff |
Budding young dancers from South Wales join 8 international principal dancers on a professional stage when they appear in English Youth Ballet’s Giselle at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Friday 26 – Saturday 27 July. English Youth Ballet (EYB) gives young dancers the opportunity to perform in full length productions of classical ballets in professional settings across the country. Marking their second visit to the New Theatre, EYB’s Giselle is packed with enchanting sets, sumptuous costumes and spectacular dancing. Set on an English country estate, it tells the story of a young girl who is betrayed by Prince Albert, who is also engaged to Lady Bathilde. The local dancers, who auditioned back in February, are joined by 8 professional dancers who guide and mentor them. They are Amy Drew (Myrtha - Queen of the Wilis - Tasmanian Classical Ballet Company, Ballet Ireland), Julianne Rice Oxley (Giselle - English National Ballet, Lisbon National Ballet, Wiener Ballet Theatre), Oliver Speers (Albert - Royal Ballet Company), Trevor Wood (Giselle’s Father – English National Ballet, West End musical theatre – Anything Goes), Brenden Bratulic (Hilarion – K-Ballet in Japan, English National Ballet, Vienna Festival Ballet), Richard Read (Hilarion - Ballet Cymru, Vienna Festival Ballet), Adeline Kaiser (Lucienne - Royal Ballet Company, San Francisco Ballet and English National Ballet). Giselle is at the New Theatre from Friday 26 – Saturday 27 July. Tickets are on sale now with prices from £9.00 to £20.00.
