This year, Wales Millennium Centre in partnership with their resident companies the Urdd and Literature Wales, are offering a brand new residential summer course for young people aged 10 – 16. Through the Lens \ Trwy’r Lens [12 – 23 Aug] gives youngsters a chance to learn new skills in front of and behind the camera including acting, script writing, producing, filming and editing. The summer school will take place in August and includes the course through the medium of English [12 – 16 Aug] and Welsh [19 – 23 Aug 2013]. Literature Wales will provide specialist script writers to lead the script writing workshops and behind the scenes coaching will be led by Osian Williams, a media journalist and owner of the professional documentary filming company SSP Media. Osian, originally from Pontypridd, was one of the original members of the Clwb Digidol a similar course which was held at the Urdd in Cardiff in 2008. As a result of his time in the club, Osian went on to study film and media in Bangor University. He currently runs his own successful media company working with clients such as S4C and Bangor University. Hywel Roberts, Youth Officer for the Urdd in Cardiff, who established the first Clwb Digidol said, “Osian was one of the first members to sign up for the Clwb Digidol and his enthusiasm was infectious. We’re delighted to be able to invite Osian back to the Urdd, returning as the trainer rather than the trainee.” Steve Williams, a Creative Learning Officer at Wales Millennium Centre said: “We’re delighted to be working so closely with two of our eight resident companies on Trwy’r Lens. In a fast growing digital world this course is an excellent and unique opportunity for young people to learn new skills in digital media.” Through the Lens \ Trwy’r Lens will be held in the Urdd Sleepover at Wales Millennium Centre this summer - English Course 12 - 16 Aug & Welsh Course 19 – 23 Aug. The cost of the course is £100, which includes food, accommodation, evening activities and training for the week. For more information go to www.wmc.org.uk/makeityours/SummerCourseThroughTheLens/ - |
