This September Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch will take part in 'DRYSAU AGORED - OPEN DOORS'. This is an annual festival to celebrate architecture and heritage and the events in Wales are co ordinated by The Civic Trust for Wales. “This is the first time that Arad Goch has taken part in this event. Due to the continuous support from the Arts Council of Wales we’re fortunate to be based within a fantastic building, this is a community venue and it’s an opportunity for us to raise awareness of what facilities we have to share with the local people” Heulwen Davies, Marketing Officer Arad Goch Arad Goch is based in a former chapel on Bath Street, Aberystwyth. Having purchased the former chapel hall in 1990, the Company developed quickly and within ten years they had outgrown the space. In order to meet the demand for work and to house the additional members of staff, they needed additional space. In 2005, Arad Goch purchased the ‘manse’ next door to the former hall, as well as a unit on the Glan yr Afon Industrial Estate in order to store props, costumes and sets. The building work on Bath Street commenced in 2006 with completion in 2008. James Jenkins Architects and WRW contractors worked side by side with Arad Goch to transform the building which now houses a 70 seat modern theatre, a multipurpose studio, a gallery with the original stained glass window, two video editing suites with HD filming equipment and offices for Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch staff. It’s a striking combination of old and new. “The building is constantly ‘buzzing’ and it’s an inspiring place to work. It has allowed Arad Goch to develop new projects in film, radio and fashion. It’s home to two resident artists, printmaker Lea Adams and Siriol Joyner a choreographer. During term time we rent out various spaces to Aberystwyth Univeristy for lectures and performances. Various corporate events and seminars take place here, as well as regular art exhibitions, gigs, yoga classes, birthday parties and we’ve had a wedding in the gallery!” Jeremy Turner, Artistic Director Arad Goch. Arad Goch will be organising three events during the Festival; all are free of charge and suitable for everyone.
