Caerphilly county borough’s leading arts and entertainment venue Blackwood Miners’ Institute has unveiled its new season – with something for everyone including drama, musical performances, comedy or family entertainment. The must-see production of the season is Boeing Boeing by Marc Camoletti, a high-speed, farcical comedy running from 1-3 October. Black Rat productions fly into action with this tale of one lucky man, Bernard; three gorgeous but unwitting air hostesses; and an airline timetable. He may seem to have the perfect life, but things begin to fall apart when all three of Bernard’s beaus are stranded in his home city of Paris, and he has to begin a juggling act that could be his downfall! Entertaining and energetic, this play follows true Black Rat style and will have you jetting off with Bernard as the drama unfolds. There’s plenty more drama on the way this season. Direct from the Edinburgh Festival, Melmoth the Wanderer explores the terrible fate of a choir practise that is hijacked by a tormented soul. Terrifyingly hilarious, this play has been described as ‘Saw meets Fawlty Towers’, and is in Blackwood on 4 September. There’s also an exploration of human feeling using puppets in Ignorance on 7 October, and a welcome return from Frank Vickery with his funny and moving wartime production All’s Fair… from 14-16 October. Mappa Mundi Theatre Company are also back, introducing their latest production, The Compleat Female Stage Beauty, which takes us back in time to chart the rise of the actress in British History; and music, comedy and theatre combine in the Edinburgh Festival hit Sue: The Second Coming, which is on 28 November. Audiences will not be short of live music this season, either. There are performances of The Rat Pack on 9 October, Limehouse Lizzy on 12 October, Andy Fairweather Low & The Lowriders on 19 October and Dominic Kirwan on 6 November. Add to that the best of soul music in Soul Legends on 21 November and up and coming Welsh Band Peasant’s King perform on 22 November. If you want a night of nostalgia and swing, The Siren Sisters return to Blackwood with fabulous 1940s tunes on 28 November, and you can spend a night at the movies with Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra on 29 November, with themes from newer hits like The Hobbit, and a celebration of 50 years of James Bond. Don’t forget that every month top artists from the current music scene will be performing in the ‘Stute Acoustic Sessions. It’s family fun galore this season, with plenty of entertainment that will appeal to the oldest as well as the youngest. Enjoy an evening of enchantment and yarn-spinning with Fireside Tales With Granddad on 28 October, followed by the 2013 Olivier Award Nominated Room On The Broom from 14 – 16 November. Sherman Theatr Cymru will also be bringing their new production of Corina Pavlova to Blackwood on 27 November – which pet will choose Corina? Owen Money returns in this year’s Christmas panto, Aladdin. It’s packed full of fun, audience participation, fabulous musical numbers and laugh out loud comedy. This show is sure to enchant the whole family and is at Blackwood Miners from December 11 – 30. That’s not all - there’s even more to come! Radio Presenter Chris Needs will be at the ‘Stute on 30 November with an all new variety show, Caerphilly Youth Theatre will be performing the modern musical Reality from 16 – 19 October, plus there’s hilarious stand-up on offer in the monthly ‘Stute Comedy Nights.
