The 2013 Noises of art Conference takes place at Aberystwyth Arts Centre 4-6 September 2013. The conference addresses a groundbreaking period in the coming together, exchange, and mutual influence of visual, textual, and sound-based practices, while exploring the practitioner’s and historian’s engagement with images, sound, noise, music, and text. It does so by examining the visual-textual-sonic fusion from the standpoints of practice, theory, and history.Programme announced for the 2013 Noises of art Conference 4–6 September 2013 Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Mid Wales, UK http://noisesofart.weebly.com/ The boundary between visual art and aural modes of creative practice is porous. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, visual artists, musicians, and writers have crossed over into one another’s domains in order to extend their field of competence, to collaborate on audio-visual works, to establish theoretical and methodological correlations, or to operate and cooperate in the interstice of their disciplines. The conference addresses a groundbreaking period in the coming together, exchange, and mutual influence of visual, textual, and sound-based practices, while exploring the practitioner’s and historian’s engagement with images, sound, noise, music, and text. It does so by examining the visual-textual-sonic fusion from the standpoints of practice, theory, and history. In general, the forum will provide and the opportunity to: • draw together visual artists and text-based artists who also use sound as a mode of creative production as well as musicians and sound- or noise-based artists who also use images (static or kinetic) as a mode of creative production; • discuss, describe, exemplify, and present individual and collaborative practice; • examine the commonalities, distinctives, and relationship of image, sound, and aural text in terms of their essence, methodologies, technologies, theories, aesthetics, historical trajectories, and modes of discourse; • explore audio-visual practice from the perspective of cognitive, perceptual, and psychological studies. The conference programme is now available to view on the conference website http://noisesofart.weebly.com/. Conference bookings can be made via the Aberystwyth Arts Centre website www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk/talks-spoken-word/conference-noises-art or by emailing aafstaff@aber.ac.uk. Day tickets are now available for £25. The Noises of art conference has been convened by The School of art Aberystwyth University in collaboration with The Courtauld Institute of art, London and Aberystwyth Arts Centre. |
