September will be the culmination of a year's long Theatre Directing Course run by Living Pictures, in association with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and Sherman Cymru. Rhwng Dau Fyd (Between Two Worlds) will be directed by three directors that have been on the course during the past year.Between the 10th and 14th of September, Ffion Haf, Ffion Dafis and Wyn Mason will all be directing brand new plays at Sherman Theatre. Two other directors who have been on the course during the past year will be directing new plays in the near future are Rhiannon Williams and Janet Aethwy. The new directors will be directing original work by well-known authors which will be a celebration of new writting; and all of the plays will be presented on the same evening. The three plays are a contemporary response to the folk tale of Blodeuwedd (The Woman of Flowers); Gwagle by Branwen Davies, Man Gwyn Man Draw by Meic Povey and Marjori by Caryl Lewis. Wyn Mason, who will be directing ‘Gwagle’ by Branwen Davies said: “The course has been a great experience and very useful for the future. Not only have we been introduced to various ways of directing but we’ve also been trained in the process of developing scripts with playwriters. I’ve also benifited from the amount of guests of the highest standard that have visited us on the course – one inspirational weekend after another! It’s also been a pleasure to work with great actors and meet such talented writers. On the whole I feel like I’ve received an amazing experience I’ll be able to take away and use again and again for years to come.” To continue on the theme of celebrating new writing, four new authors will have a chance to develop their work during the week at Sherman Theatre. Matthew Glyn, Beca Lewis Jones, Sian Price and Rhodri Trefor will be writting new pieces of work and receiving advice by experts in the field on how to develop their work. Rhwng Dau Fyd will also be a part of World Stage Design, which is taking place in Cardiff from the 5th until the 15th of September. This is the first time the festival has been held in Wales and its a celebration of international performance design. The set designer for Rhwng Dau Fyd is a graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cai Dyfan. Cai said: "It's an honour to be a part of World Stage Design, especially as it's happening right here in Cardiff. I hope the world will be able to see what we have to offer here in Wales."
