Autumn-Winter 2013 season at the New Theatre Cardiff announced

Opening the season and for one night only, a fresh cast of burlesque all-stars are set to thrill audiences on Saturday 7 September in An Evening of Burlesque following the acclaimed 2012 performance. This riotous romp into the bizarre world of cutting-edge variety is full of exotic couture costumes, wicked wit and slick choreography. Suitable for adults only.

The team behind Bred in Heaven and Whose Coat is that Jacket? premiere their brand new comedy I’ll Be There Now in a Minute between Wednesday 11 – Saturday 14 September. Trimsaran meets Tenerife with outrageous consequences when the Williams family from west Wales takes their first foreign holiday for 30 years!

From Thursday 19 – Saturday 21 September comes the sensational one man show Formby starring Ewan Wardrop. Formby is a fascinating, touching and funny look at the star’s extraordinary talent and features many of his classic hits brilliantly recreated by Wardrop on his ukulele, including When I’m Cleaning Windows, TT Races and many more.

A brand new production of the hit musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers starring Dancing on Ice winner and EastEnders star Sam Attwater along with Helena Blackman runs from Tuesday 24 – Saturday 28 September. This toe-tapping show full of high energy dance numbers, wonderful songs and colourful sets is sure to put a spring in anyone’s step!

Based on E R Braithwaite’s autobiography, To Sir, With Love (Tuesday 1 – Saturday 5 October) tells the story of Ricky Braithwaite’s journey from fighter pilot to teacher in a tough but progressive school in an East End school. Made famous by the 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier, To Sir, With Love, brilliantly adapted by Ayub Khan-Din (East is East), explores what it means to be black in post-war Britain. Starring Matthew Kelly and Ansu Kabia.

The hit West End show Thriller Live returns to Cardiff from Monday 7 – Saturday 12 October. A spectacular concert that celebrates the thrilling career of the world’s greatest entertainer brings to life the sensational dancing and distinctive sound of Michael and the Jackson 5.

Cardiff’s Orbit Theatre returns with the multi-award-winning musical A Chorus Line from Tuesday 15 – Saturday 19 October. Following the highs and the heartbreak of aspiring dancers at a Broadway audition, A Chorus Line is a musical for anyone who has ever dreamed of performing.

Olivier award-winning and Oscar nominated star Tom Conti returns to the New Theatre as James Highwood in the gripping courtroom drama Rough Justice from Tuesday 22 – Saturday 26 October. The tables turn as documentary maker and television journalist James Highwood finds himself being challenged by the British justice system as he is brought to court on a charge of murder.

Two half-term treats in the form of Cirque du Hilarious (Monday 28 October) and Peppa Pig (Wednesday 30 – Thursday 31 October) are set to thrill the whole family with their fun-filled shows.

The international smash hit show New Jersey Nights comes to Cardiff as part of its world tour from Tuesday 5 – Saturday 9 November. A spectacular celebration of the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, this nostalgic musical features all of their greatest hits including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like a Man and many more.

Eva is a Jewish child evacuated from Nazi Germany to Britain in 1938 as part of the Kindertransport (Tuesday 12 – Saturday 16 November). This exceptional piece of theatre simultaneously tells three stories: Eva’s experience of being taken from her mum to a strange land, her struggles with identity growing up and finally the relationship she has with her daughter. Kindertransport gives a small insight into the bittersweet experience of a mother preparing her children to survive alone and how that feeling unites every woman regardless of the circumstances.

Young theatregoers can discover why penguins don’t get spots, why the moon doesn’t wander off and the answers to many more pressing questions in Horrible Science from Tuesday 19 – Saturday 23 November. Using actors and jaw-dropping 3D Bogglevsion, this astounding show from the producers of Horrible Histories is guaranteed to thrill the whole family! Ages 6+.

Two of Britain’s best-loved actors join forces in the hilarious and bittersweet Chin Chin from Tuesday 26 – Saturday 30 November. Felicity Kendal and Simon Callow star in this classic comedy set in 1950s Paris. Undesirable circumstances bring them together, but the ‘city of love’ leaves them with more than they bargained for.

Kicking off the season of Christmas spirit, from Wednesday 4 – Saturday 7 December is the wonderfully uplifting The Holly and the Ivy which follows the family of an elderly reverend as they get together to celebrate on Christmas Eve. Simmering tensions, secrets being revealed and lots of humour guarantees it will be a festive period to remember.

Starring Julian Clary and Wales’ own Mike Doyle, Jack and the Beanstalk is this year’s GIANT of a family pantomime from Saturday 14 December 2013 – Sunday 19 January 2014. Featuring the usual magical mix of comedy, outrageous costumes, fabulous sets and a huge beanstalk, the New Theatre once again presents Wales’ biggest panto!

Based on the smash hit film of the same name, The Full Monty comes to the New Theatre from Thursday 23 January – Saturday 1 February. On finding themselves unemployed and losing hope for the future, six steel workers stage a male strip show to boost their bank balance and self esteem. Already wowing audiences all over the UK, The Full Monty calls into Cardiff immediately prior to a West End run.

Starring Paul Michael Glaser as Tevye, we welcome one of the world’s favourite musicals Fiddler on the Roof from Tuesday 4 – Saturday 8 February. Directed and Choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood, this exciting new production embarks on an emotional rollercoaster through the ups and downs of love and village life.

The West End and Edinburgh festival smash hit comedy The Play That Goes Wrong crashes into Cardiff from Tuesday 11 – Saturday 15 February. The show follows the inept and accident prone thesps of Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they deal with disaster after disaster on their hilarious journey to perform their latest ‘whodunit’.

Take trip back in time with The Birmingham Stage Company to Tom’s Midnight Garden from Tuesday 25 February – Saturday 1 March. This brilliant adaptation of the classic children’s story is a magnificent family adventure that’s perfect for half term week.

Marking both the centenary of Dylan Thomas’ birth and the 60th anniversary of the play’s British premiere, Clwyd Theatr Cymru present Under Milk Wood from Tuesday 11 – Saturday 15 March. Full of enchanting characters and rich in humour, it offers an unforgettable journey into the roots of language and the soul of Wales.

Direct from the West End as part of a limited UK tour, Chariots of Fire between Tuesday 18 – Saturday 22 March celebrates one of Britain’s most thrilling sporting achievements. This immensely moving tale of rivalry and determination in the face of prejudice makes for a theatrical event that will leave audiences breathless with excitement.

From deepest, darkest Egypt straight to the New Theatre stage The Mummy from Tuesday 1 – Saturday 5 April tells the tale of a legendary curse that is stirring back into life. Spanning thousands of years this hilarious comedy will generate screaming and laughter in equal measure.

Wrapping up the season in unforgettable style from Tuesday 8 – Saturday 12 April Northern Ballet’s Cinderella, full of breathtaking winter scenes and opulent ballrooms, charts the course of true love from heartbreak to joy, proving that love conquers all and dreams really do come true.
