Celebrating their 10th Birthday, Cardiff based 3D Theatre Company will be embarking on their first national tour of Wales. The company, initiated by Hannah Wynn Jones, Nia Wyn Jones and Catrin Wyn Jones (no relation!), will be taking a new original Welsh language play, Wyneb Dros Dro, to 10 different theatres across the Country. Written by Glenn Jones, this darkly comic play delves into the heart of family dysfunction at one of the most stressful times of year – Christmas. Wyneb Dros Dro was initially developed after the company were accepted to take part in Wales Millennium Centre’s Incubator project back in 2011. Following favourable feed-back the company have been working to develop the piece. Supported by both the Arts Council of Wales and Wales Millennium Centre, the play centres around a newly divorced matriarchal Mother with a surprising spring to her step, all thanks to the new young man in her life – and her son and daughter-in-law are about to meet him over the Christmas turkey. Aimed at ages 14+, Wyneb Dros Dro offers the perfect remedy for a cold autumn’s evening. This is a debut outing, not only the play, but for the author himself who has worked alongside the company for the past 5 years as an actor. Glenn Jones, originally from Caernarfon, said, “I’m firmly part of the 3D family now. I’ve always loved their ethos of providing a platform for artists in Wales to showcase their abilities, and now I’m experiencing it first-hand.” 3D, which stands for Tair Dynes (three women), have now been on the theatre scene for 10 years, moving straight from University in Aberystwyth to Cardiff for the sole purpose of establishing the company. Hannah Wynn Jones, Producer and one of the company’s founders, said, “We’re immensely proud of the work we’ve achieved to date, and what better way to celebrate our 10th birthday than to take our work out to Wales.” Since establishing the company they have produced on average two shows a year, produced performances at National Eisteddfod solidly for 6 years and have even had a successful run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe. None of which has been an easy feat for the small company as Nia Wyn Jones, founder and Producer explains, “It’s a huge thing for us to achieve, from contracts to casting to script to workshops…but it’s a labour of love, always has been and always will. The four hander, with the confirmed cast of Manon Eames, Dyfrig Evans, Rhodri Trefor and Llinos Daniel, will begin journey on the 8th of October in Galeri, Caernarfon, before zigzagging their way down south calling at Wales Millennium Centre’s Weston Studio where it all began. Catrin Jones, Producer and founding member, said, “As soon as we confirmed venues and cast it all became very real. We’re a mix of pride, excitement and abstract terror.” Tour Dates 2013 8th - Galeri, Caernarfon Box Office: 01286 685222 / galericaernarfon.com 9th - Neuadd Dwyfor, Pwllheli Box Office:01758 704088 10th -Theatr Colwyn,Colwyn Bay Box Office: 01492 57888 / theatrcolwyn.co.uk 14th - Weston Studio, Wales Millenium Centre Box Office: 02920 636464 / wmc.org.uk/weston 15th - Weston Studio, Wales Millenium Centre Box Office: 02920 636464 / wmc.org.uk/weston 16th -Pontardawe Arts Centre Box Office: 01792 863722 / nptartsandevents.co.uk 17th -Lyric,Carmarthen Box Office: 0845 226 3510 / theatrausirgar.co.uk 18th -Gartholwg Lifelong Learning Centre Box Office: 01443 219589 / gartholwg.org 19th -Borough Theatre, Abergavenny Box Office: 01873 850805 / boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk 23rd -Theatr Felinfach Box Office: 01570 470697 / theatrfelinfach.com 24th-Theatr Mwldan,Cardigan Box Office: 01239 621200 / mwldan.co.uk |
